Astute Certification Website and Identity


Astute Building Certification is a building certification business based in Cairns. We worked closely with them to design their new brand identity; including logo, business cards and business documents. We also designed and developed their new website, which is a custom built, sophisticated, single page brochure style website.

The Astute website is based around beautiful fullscreen images, bold typography and novel content layout and presentation. It incorporates some advanced techniques to ensure the burden of large images doesn't degrade user experience by causing long loading times and broken layouts. We created a custom lazy loading solution to handle the large images, this ensures the site always looks great and that it loads incredibly quickly. 

The site is fully responsive, having been thoroughly tested on a wide range of mobile devices and screen sizes. It is designed to work with all modern browsers, including Internet Explorer 9, IE10, IE 11, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Opera, Firefox and all recent mobile browsers.

The site is powered by Perch CMS (our favourite CMS for less complex websites) and uses Twitter Bootstrap 3.

Communications planning & content for Qld architects


Peddle Thorp architectural practice asked Quill Studios to help them develop a fresh approach to their marketing and communications activity. We started within the organisation, working with the team to collect and clarify the ways they currently communicate, what they value and practical resources they needed to improve interactions between colleagues and with external audiences. 

We worked with Peddle Thorp to:

  • Create a visual style guide. 
  • Develop a Communications Guide to define brand values, tone and voice, and provide advice on writing, presenting and engaging with colleagues and clients.
  • Create a communications and marketing plan including a schedule for social media, PR and marketing activity.
  • Deliver team training to introduce concepts from the communications guide.
  • Develop an internal communications campaign, including an internal e-newsletter.
  • Manage the creation of the practice’s new website, including: stakeholder meetings, content strategy workshops, design brief, agency selection process, creating new content, auditing and editing existing content, and project management. 

The practice’s new website was designed and coded by Vivo Group, with project management and content creation managed by Quill Studios. In writing and structuring content for the new Peddle Thorp website, we focused on conveying key aspects of the brand values, which had been teased out during earlier work. This includes an emphasis on being helpful yet refined: adopting a sophisticated, intelligent tone of voice while still being engaging and providing clear answers for visitors.

Jardini International Website


Jardini International sell rare fish, predominantly to collectors in the Asian region. They required a website which would convey the extreme rarity, beauty and value of their fish and allow their brand to stand out in this competitive market. 

We worked with Jardini to develop a content strategy, site structure and brand voice which helps Jardini position themselves as one of the world's premier suppliers of rare fish.

To successfully achieve the final look and feel of the website, we had to use some interesting advanced techniques to ensure the site performed well and looked beautiful across a wide range of browsers and devices.

Some of the more interesting technical features include:

  • Parallax effect which runs at a locked 60 frames / second across browsers and devices
  • Ajax loading of content on demand to ensure fast loading times even on slow connections
  • Highly customisable content which allows client to drastically change the look and feel of site in addition to editing and adding content

RBC Environmental website


RBC Environmental needed a simple, elegant, single-page brochure style site to help promote their services and allow potential clients to get in touch. 

We created a clean and modern design based on their existing corporate style - we focussed on keeping both the look and feel of the site and the user-experience very simple and intuitive. 

The site is powered by Perch CMS and makes heavy use of ajax to make the site feel as responsive and easy to use as possible.

Allianz Global Assistance has a clear purpose: to help people in times of need. But the company operates across diverse industries, with a range of products to suit different markets delivered via network of internal employees and external providers.

In developing content for the company's new website, Quill Studios was given the challenge of showcasing that complexity and capacity while keeping messages on the page simple and powerful. We did this by:
